As a Texas Realtor, I urge everyone in the state to get to the polls on Nov. 3 and vote for Proposition 1. Texas Realtors worked hard during the last legislative session on property-tax relief for all homeowners in the state, and we were able to convince lawmakers to do something about it. But it’s not a done deal. We still have to pass this constitutional amendment.
Here’s the explanation for what that ballot language is trying to say: Voting for Prop 1 will lower your property taxes. Voting for Prop 1 will make sure seniors and disabled homeowners enjoy the same tax relief that others will get. And voting for Prop 1 will mean that Texans will never have to pay sales tax on real estate sales—something that people in 36 other states already pay.
