The Easter Bunny’s schedule is about to get very busy. Easter arrives this weekend, bringing with it egg hunts, pooch parades, and appearances from a number of special rabbits. Here are a few ways to celebrate the holiday in Dallas with your family.
After a year off, Oak Lawn’s traditional Easter in Lee Park returns for its 50th anniversary. The main highlight, as per usual, is the adorable “Petropolitan Pooch Parade.” (Go here to register your dog.) Live music, an Easter egg hunt, and appearances from the Bunny itself are scheduled. Picnic to your heart’s content while you’re out there. The fun begins at 1 pm, with the parade commencing at 2 o’clock.
The Heritage Farmstead Museum will celebrate Easter with an egg hunt and a good old fashioned sheep shearing at its Victorian Eggstravaganza and Spring Festival on Saturday. It should make for an historic and educational Easter adventure.
Head to the central garden at NorthPark mall on Saturday for Easter egg hunt, performances by members of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and a storytime session. Face painting and other fun and games abound. This event runs from about 10 am to 1 pm.
On Sunday afternoon, the Alamo Drafthouse in Richardson will screen Harvey, a film that may not have much to do with the holiday aside from the presence of a giant rabbit. The Jimmy Stewart flick follows a drunken, wealthy man who befriends an invisible (to everyone else) rabbit named Harvey. The lighthearted comedy-with-a-message shows at 1:30 pm.
A much smaller rabbit with little to do with Easter is Edward Tulane, the toy bunny at the center of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, showing at Dallas Children’s Theater. After Tulane gets lost at sea, he spends much of the next two decades looking for a new home in this moving play, which should impress kids and their parents. Go here for this weekend’s showtimes.
